Visiting Scholar Program

The Visiting Scholar program is designed to encourage international collaboration, provide opportunities for those visiting Canada to network with McNally Project members, and allow for recognition of colleagues advancing paramedicine internationally.

It is open to all who meet the criteria of Scientist, Senior Fellow or Fellow as outlined here.


Eligibility Criteria:

To qualify as a Visiting Scholar, applicants must:

  1. Have a project or series of activities that would benefit from engagement with the McNally Project in Canada.
  2. Hold an academic faculty or equivalent research appointment
  3. Be able to fully fund their visit.
  4. Be sponsored by a McNally Project scientist, senior fellow, or fellow.

Program Benefits:

  • The McNally Project sponsor will facilitate meetings with faculty, researchers, service operators, and professional groups at the request of the visiting scholar.
  • An opportunity to present a McNally Project webinar to a community of researchers and scholars across Canada.
  • Recognition as an international collaborator with scientist, senior fellow, or fellow status in the McNally Project.
  • Provision of workspace, meeting rooms, or other resources as required can be discussed.

Application and Selection Process:

  1. The applicant must have established a sponsor for their visit at the time of application.
  2. Applicants are required to submit a Letter of Intent, CV, Letter of Support, and funding confirmation.
  3. Visits can range in length of time and are to be negotiated with the McNally Project sponsor.
  4. Visiting scholar positions are limited based on sponsor availability.
  5. Eligible applicants will meet with a Co-Chair of the McNally Project, whose recommendation will be reviewed with the Executive Committee.
  6. Upon Executive Committee approval, the Visiting Scholar will be formally invited. Significance and feasibility of the applicant’s proposed research or activities, alignment with the McNally Project’s mission and priorities, and the potential for long-term collaboration will be considered.
  7. Post-visit engagement including co-authorship opportunities, contributions to ongoing McNally project initiatives and participation in alumni networks will also be considered.
  8. Applications can be submitted throughout the year.
