Welcome back to another academic season! As we embark on the next chapter of the McNally Project, now in its 11th year, we are thrilled to share some exciting updates and initiatives that reflect our continued commitment to advancing research capacity and contributions within paramedicine.
Over the past decade, our community has seen remarkable growth. Paramedicine in Canada is flourishing, with an increasing number of researchers exploring a diverse array of topics through various research paradigms, methodologies, and methods. Paramedics are finding more opportunities to lead research programs, and those new to the field are discovering a supportive network of collaborators, mentors, and peers. The rise of research labs, groups, and projects has created numerous opportunities for both individual growth and the advancement of our profession. Our partnership with Paramedicine, the international peer-reviewed journal, academic units at universities, health and paramedicine systems across Canada is supporting and representative of that growth. We remain enthusiastic about the future of paramedicine and the role research will play in shaping it.
In alignment with our growth and evolution, we are introducing a new strategy for 2024/25 designed to further our core mandate. This year, we will focus on four key initiatives:
- Big Ideas: A lecture series showcasing thought leaders who will discuss topics and research of significance to the paramedicine research community. This series will appeal to those interested in the latest advancements and trends.
- Methods Corner: An in-depth exploration of specific research methods, led by active researchers with specialized expertise. This initiative will cover a wide range of methodologies.
- Development Days: Tailored for individuals new to paramedicine research or in the early stages of their research careers, offering development opportunities and much more.
- Advocacy: Sessions aimed at supporting advocacy efforts related to paramedicine research and infrastructure, with the goal of enhancing research capacity and contributions.
These initiatives will be scheduled throughout the academic season (September 2024 to June 2025) based on speaker availability and member interest, rather than adhering to a fixed schedule.
Additionally, we plan to review our membership categories, assess community needs, and open our executive meetings to our member community. This inclusive approach will help shape the future direction of the McNally Project and ensure that we continue to serve and support our members and the profession effectively.
We greatly appreciate your continued support and engagement with the McNally Project.
